New and improved snow tubing and snow play area offers more fun for families

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – February 22, 2011 – Snowlovers have a whole new way to experience Sierra™ Resort with Blizzard Mountain. The revamped and relocated snow play and tubing area features rope tow accessible tubing lanes, an expanded snow play area, a bounce house, snack bar, fire pits, picnic tables and sledding. There are amenities for people of all ages and sizes to enjoy, including young children just starting to explore the outdoors in wintertime.

Get “Tubular”: Two Lift Accessible Tubing Lanes

Blizzard Mountain’s main attraction – two lift accessible tubing lanes – has a start deck for easy take-off and a gentle run-out that allows for a comfortable stop. To get back to the top, just sit back and relax while the rope tow pulls you and the tube up to the start deck. Kids can ride the tubing hill again and again and mom and dad do not have to keep dragging the sled back to the top.

“Snow Play”: Snowmen, S’mores and Snacks

Blizzard Mountain’s snow play area allows friends and families to experience winter together while building snowmen, making snow angels, constructing snow castles, having a friendly snow ball fight, or just playing in the snow. The controlled environment is fenced, so parents can let their children play as if they were in their own backyard. Snowman kits and snowball makers are available or you can also B.Y.O.S.T. – bring your own snow toys! The sledding hill lets families create their own snowy backyard memories and introduces kids to the fun of going downhill on the snow.

The snack bar and picnic tables give tired snow enthusiasts a place to sit down, catch their breath, and grab a snack to refuel. Onsite fire pits also give families a place to snuggle up and roast marshmallows to make s’mores. S’more kits can be purchased at the snack bar along with other affordable treats like slices of pizza and hot cocoa to warm up cold fingers.

Ralston the Polar Bear: The official mascot of Blizzard Mountain

Named after neighboring Mount Ralston, Blizzard Mountain’s mascot Ralston the polar bear is a big snow play and tubing fan. Appearing on weekends and special events Ralston can be caught tubing, sitting by the fire, snowshoeing and playing with all the young snow aficionados. Ralston is also very photogenic and never passes up a photo opportunity; so when you catch Ralston make sure to take a picture with him, as it will surely be a keepsake memory of your family’s Sierra Resort vacation for years to come.

Break a Sweat: Strap on snowshoes and breath in the fresh mountain air

Blizzard Mountain offers easy access to three miles of marked snowshoe trails that wind through the Eldorado National Forest out to a wide open vista point perfect for snow picnics, photo opportunities or a game of snowshoe football. The trails are gentle enough for people of all ages.

Once you have relished in the snow and experienced what winter is all about at Blizzard Mountain, sign up for ski and snowboard lessons at Sierra Resort. Wild Mountain Ski & Snowboard School offers age-specific programs to ensure learning progression at a comfortable pace. Children ages three through 12 can take half-day or full-day lessons that explore The Backyard, Thunder Gulch, and Sierra Resort’s newest addition to its beginner terrain – Easy Street.

Everything You Need to Know

Entry to Blizzard Mountain is $10 per person for all-day access to sledding, the snow play area and the snowshoe trails. Snow tubing is $30 for two hours and includes all day access to Blizzard Mountain. Snowshoe rentals are $24. Groups are also welcomed to schedule day outings at Blizzard Mountain.
